The thing I find puzzling is that vista doesnt have 'documents and settings' in c drive
Only XP does. Is there a USERS folder in c drive?

So if you go into users, look for usernames and see if there are documents in there (sounds to me like it is an upgraded XP machine):idea:0

After a security upgrade I can access documents under my daughter's username. It's the Admin documents that it won't let me into (not that I think there is anything in there bar that rogue file).
BTW it's a 2 year old Dell Inspiron.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
