Hello.

Sorry if this question has been asked, have had a look, however could not find an answer.

My wife works via local government and has been told her post will be made redundant, her last day will be 31st March 2011. She is on a redeployment list, however I dont hold much hope with new positions being made available.

I understand she can go on contributions based JSA,she has worked for the last 16 years therefore has always paid NI etc. I know this last for 6 months.
After this the JSA is means tested......To be honest I hope she can get a new job within the 6 month period, she has never had trouble finding / moving to jobs in the past, but todays environment seems such a different place.
My question is this -
if after 6 months of JSA she will get a review and the benefit she receives will be means tested. I wondered if anyone knew the figures that effect her JSA.

i work full time and earn just over 20k.
I have some savings in an ISA, but I am thinking about paying some of the mortgage off with this to reduce our monthly payments.

I suppose all I am saying is, I know my salary may effect her payments( do you know the amount a partner can earn so it does not effect her payments)
I dont really want my savings effecting her JSA benefit and wondered how much you can have in savings before JSA is effected.

Like I said, hopefully she will be back in work very quickly as we are not the sort to obtain benefits, we have always both worked. But i would hate that if had for example 6,000 worth of savings, and this would effect JSA, but 5,500 would not.

If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great!!

The amount of JSA for a couple is around £102 per week, as you earn over that there would be no payment for JSA income based after the contributions based payments stop however she can still sign on to get her NI credits paid

Caz is correct. If you earn more than £102 a week your wife will not get anymore JSA.

thanks for the info. I guess it does not matter about my savings in this case. Due to me earning more than £102 a week as soon as contribution based Jsa ends then so will her payments.

Thanks for the info! Thanks for the info about about NI contributions too.

The reason your wife will not be entitled to Income-Based JSA when her CB JSA expires is because you are working over 24 hours per week, the DWP will not even look at your earnings.
