Debenhams Mastercard by Santander - Dont bother..

I have read some horror stories about Santander, and I admit I thought they cant be that bad !, well I was wrong !, I am only glad I don't have a current account with them !.

My wife applied online and was accepted for the Debenhams MasterCard, said so in the Email confirmations, then weeks later she received a Debenhams store card !, so she phoned them up and got a call centre that did not have a clue what she was taking about, just kept repeating her balance was nil, so she got transferred to someone who told her that she could cancel the store card and reapply, she did not want to reapply she just wanted the card she applied for and was accepted for.

So she wrote in a complaint, 2 months later nothing so she emailed them with a complaint, and the letter she got back was classical, it not only had a few misspellings but it completely avoided the complaint !.

They told her that as she applied IN STORE she got a temporary card which would have had a different number to what she received so there was no problem ?. That's WRONG as she applied ONLINE, not in store and did not get a temporary card but got the wrong card as she applied for and was accepted for a Debenhams MasterCard.

To be honest I don't think its worth pursuing now as they cant grasp what she is telling them, I am just glad I don't have a bank account with them as it must be a nightmare.

  • There is a nice dormancy charge also on the Santander Debenhams card. I believe it is £10.

I have this month received no statement from Debenhams, luckily managed to log into my online account on the very same day payment was due (just pot luck) but it says the payment takes 2 days to show on their records. I have written to them saying I hope they're not going to charge me a £12 late payment fee, since I hadn't received any request for payment - nightmare - and who knows who's got my statement?!

Is this new? I have the Debenhams Mastercard from Santander (with no problems so far, touch wood) but I only usually use it at xmas time, as you get extra discount for spending on your card at the November sale.

My original Debenhams storecard is now Mastercard, don't think they do just a storecard anymore. Santander say they are not going to apply the dormancy charges yet, watch this space !
