RBS Direct Debit Feb hell help!

Hi I need some advice from you guys. My partner and I work together for a smallish company. We get paid on the 26th of each month unless that falls on a weekend in which case the money goes into our accounts on the following Monday. We each contribute to a joint account for rent and bill and have standing orders set up for the last day of the month to pay into this account as our rent is paid on the 2nd of each month.
Everything went though ok with my account (HSBC) wages in SO out to joint account on the 28th of Feb. However we have just discovered that my partners bank RBS did not pay his standing order for the joint account or another DD as there were insufficientfunds in the account the day before they were due to go out. His wages did go in on the 28th so there would have been the funds available. RBS have not charged him for this but his credit card company who the DD was for have and we will be hit with charges on the joint account as we have gone over drawn when the rent went out on the 2nd.
RBS are maintaining they are right not to have paid the SO and DD. I'm also worried this may affect my credit rating as we went into an unauthorized overdraft on the joint account. Where do we stand with getting the charges refunded by RBS and will it affect my credit score?
Sorry to waffle on, any advice appreciated. It is really frustrating we try and be organized and leave plenty of time between wages in and bills out. It seems we have been hit because of Feb being a short month and the 26th falling on a Saturday
Thanks in advance

I'm sorry to say I think RBS are right in saying that they require you to have the money in your account on the previous day. If it was RBS charging you I'd be fairly confident that they'd refund the charges in these circumstances, but I can't say for any credit card company.
I understood however that RBS will allow you to pay cash in to your account on the same day to allow transactions to clear. Hopefully, one of their staff members will be along soon to shed more light on this.0 -
Providing you pay cleared funds into the account by 14.30 on the day the items will be paid.
I would recommend you register for act now alerts to prevent the same circumstances airising in future.

If the funds debit the account on a Saturday you have until 14.30 on Monday to ensure there is enough money in the account to cover the items.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Hi
Thanks for the replies, the thing that gets me is the money was there to pay the SO and the DD on the day they were due to go out.
I have never had this problem with my bank ( I used to work freelance and has some close shaves getting money into accounts on the day bills had to be paid) I think I migh try and get my other half to switch banks.0 -

Well now this I am not 100% on board with, they aren't too shabby a bank IMHO. They sure made some poor choices in regard to investments and consumer credit several years ago but as far as customer service, product range, etc go they are far from the worst IMHO.
I'm thinking Barclays and Santander at least are the source of complaints more regularly than RBS.
Although what happened to OP is not on. The funds were in the account the same day and they should have allowed them to go through & not charged.
I do know Lloyds TSB had never taken issue with me setting up payments out of my account the same day sufficient funds cleared into the account to cover them when I banked with them.
Can't speak for HSBC as it's never come up but LTSB certainly allow this.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I've been with RBS and Santander, I would rate them equally tbh, although to be fair, RBS had good online bankingGetting fit for 2013 - Starting weight 10.1.13 88.1kg
