It's almost certainly just that things are taking too long to dry, but it would be worth taking a damp cloth with a drop or two of Stardrops, and cleaning round inside the rubber seal. And do you leave the door open when it's not in use? That helps to keep the machine fresh, too.

And, if you use it, don't forget the powder dispenser, and behind it as well.
  • Quite often it can be the way that the drainage has been set up, whether you have a stand pipe or direct connection to the waste pipe.

A stand pipe should not give too much trouble but if the drainage hose is connected directly to waste pipe and does not have an anti return valve fitted or this is "gunged up" it can allow waste from the sink to enter the machine this will make clothes smell, I used to be a domestic appliance engineer and the amount of waste food products in some machines was unbelieveable as was the smell

good strong washing powder and nice dose of softener will bring them back ,take them out as soon as wash has ended try to line dry or tumble straight away as i find some heavy clothes take a long time to dry otherwise they can smell a bit piddly but smelly dog does sound funny.

I agree with this. I use a strong smelling(concentrated) fabric softener from Lidls and my stuff smells of it days later.I noticed the smell when i was dressing my 3 year old today.I will sticking with this. Its cheap and very very good.

  • nah I have been using the same fabric softener

Will run a wash on empty with some vinegar and bio powder straight away and clean the seal

    thx people!

I get this and its always with thick things like jeans or stiff tshirts. And always because I have left them too long in the ironing basket when they aren't properly dry. Or because they have hung up in the airing cupnboard too long and for soe reason aren't dry.
Its very annoying isnt it. The smell is vile and you can't get away from it once you are wearing the clotes out of the house, I have tried drowning myself in deodorant to mask it but it didnt work!

  • This happens to me, usually by two methods:

    1) They havent been dried quick enough
    2) My smelly socks have been in with normal clothes items.

And what previous people have said, too much in the washer, stuff doesnt get washed properly.

I think that you might have hit the nail on the head here! I tried ironing some clothes straight off the radiator as soon as they were dry rather than putting them in an ironing basket and they smell lovely and fresh. I'll just have to be more prompt with my ironing

Me AND my mum have both had this problem! Only this year and never before, it's really odd. I ran the washer on it's hottest with bleach in it and some bio powder, and it's been fine since. Not sure if it's coincidence but hope you gets yours sorted, it's soul destroying after sorting and washing everything to end up smelling odd, innit!
