Utility Estimation?

Hi,

I have my first property being built & completed in October. I was wondering if my estimations for my budgeting are accurate?

Gas & Elec: £60
Water: £30

This will be for just me living in a 4 bed semi (until I have lodgers) in Buckinghamshire, Aylesbury.

I will shower once or twice a day. Wash the car once a fortnight (pressure washer & 2 buckets so not a great deal of water used) Wash loads would probably be 1 or 2 for clothes per week and bedding & towels fortnightly (will have a few sets). I don't really use the oven much (will be a double oven) usually my George Foreman and enough gas to boil vegetables.

As for efficiency the house has an estimated score of '81' Which just makes it a 'B' on the Energy Efficieny Rating chart.

My mother pays similar to this now for 2 of us living in a 3 bed semi and she works from home so has the heating come on regularly to keep the house warm.

Is anybody in a similar situation? if you wouldn't mind sharing your rough costs for utilities I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Benny

For water, if you go on the companies website they normally have an online calculator to show how much it would cost if you had a water meter.

For gas and elec a lot will depend on the number of appliances. If you end up with 3 lodgers and they all have a TV in their romm they you will be running 4 TVs every evening. More showers, more washing machine etc etc. Therefore anything you work out now will need to take into account the increased cost. Also check you home insurnace.

Remember you can only receive a total of £4250 per year in rent (Rent a room scheme) otherwise it becomes taxable.

Thanks I'll see if I can work this out.

Of course, any increase in bills will be funded for by the lodgers.

I'm aware of this thanks :)

Thanks. If you don't mind me asking what do you have in regards to your heating? A couple of hours in the morning/evening? low all day? or just boost as and when?

    well depending on shift

    early shift 6am - 2

timer mode heating on 4am (nice and warm 5am when im up)
turns off around 7.30 as gf getting up for work.

she then switches off the heating from timer.

use gas fire in evening, if extremely cold, heating on a couple of hours, to take the edge off the temp in bedroom.
unless a lot of washing to dry then on until dry

    if on lates.

gf gas fire in evening (or so she claims) heating to dry washing if needed, or if she decides to heat the entire house even though only in living room

by 7am, suns out soprt of and warms up the room a little.

    as an edit.

i cannot have it all day on low i have no thermostat to control it.
i have a dial 0 - low - 1 - 4 on back boiler under front of fire...... i really should look to see if you can fit a room stat to a baxi 552 back boiler

    if it helps you

my usage from 18 june until last statment this month was (so 9 month)

1550 kWh used since end of june until 1st feb - electric

10770 kWh used since end of june until 1st feb - gas
