Hello
After PM'ing you and confirming that your posts were indeed referring to my own post, I thought it best to continue the discussion here.
Nowhere in my post do I mention 'ultra high quality chipboard'. Nor can I find any such claim on our website. Our carcasses are manufactured from a high quality Melamine Faced Chipboard, just like the vast majority of High Street retailers offer. There are many varying quality MFC boards in use in the kitchen industry, as I'm sure you're aware; ours is very good. The only time a higher quality kitchen carcass can be obtained is by paying through the nose for timber or veneered units. Our kitchens sit at the top-end of the mid-section in the market.
Lastly, my post was responding directly to the post from teamjones5, and only because he/she mentioned National Kitchens by name. That coupled with CKdesigners suggestion that savings made by buying our kitchens might not be significant enough to warrant a purchase required my response. In no way was my post Spam.
Alec
I stand corrected on the "ultra " , however you have put a direct link to your own website which is not allowed and if you bothered to read the rules before making us all suffer your sales pitch you would have known.
The vast majority of us are here to help people and its a bit cheap to promote your own business.
Now moving on to your post about carcases , MFC is cheap and nowhere near as good as MFMDF or Birch-faced ply which are more expensive but only marginally if purchased in volume and you don't have to "Pay through the nose" as you say this is a complete smokescreen..0 -
MFC is cheaper than MFMDF or Birch-faced Ply, this does not mean it is a cheap product. It is used by most of the major kitchen retailers who supply quality kitchens, Poggenpohl and John Lewis included. So when you say it's 'nowhere near as good as...', we both know that it's perfect material for kitchen carcasses. There's simply no need to pay for overpriced Birch-faced Ply units. And I am of course quite happy to do some price comparisons on here if you like? Our rigid units against your rigid units.

But it is a cheap product. In terms of quality it is slightly better than hardboard and falls well below any plywood. Ever seen a boat or yacht made out of MFC?
If you think birch faced ply is overpriced then MFC is extortionately overpriced. Seems you know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
I am a cabinetmaker by trade and as such recognise from what and how quality cabinets are made. Kitchen cabinets or any cabinet made from MFC and jointed with knockdown fittings do not even come in the realm of cabinet making.
Problem is the kitchen industry on the whole has deluded itself into thinking that they are producing quality cabinets, marketed them as such and hoodwinked the public into believing that they are getting value for money.
The truth is mark up from factory to installation will be extraordinarily high. The difference in price between the products you sell and those that the likes of leveller make will not be great.
The difference in quality will be evident. In 20-25 yrs the 'quality products' you are pushing will be in a skip and properly constructed cabinets will have another 75 years at least in front of them.
Mostly you are selling a decorative item with overhyped 'lifestyle' appeal and limited life expectancy.
Please do not confuse this tat with quality items built by craftsmen today that are destined to become the desirable antiques of tomorrow. (My hype:D)0 -
Hmm, yet I don't have to look far down your post-history to see you mentioning your own business. In fact, in this very thread you happen to mention your business while suggesting the client seek out your type of business. Hypocrisy personified.
Indeed I did however I stated what I do for a living and have done for the past 25 years but I have never posted a link to my own website and have never touted for business. In fact I'm lucky in having plenty of work, never needed to advertised at all , my work comes from recommendation.

Alec I admire you for trying, but saying "the MFC we use must be great because John Lewis use it in their kitchens" is grabbing at straws.
Its impossible to compare 1 unit like for like as cheap MFC carcases will be , well cheap whereas a well made carcase from Birch faced ply would be expensive BUT if your making a whole kitchens worth of units they will be cheaper individually because your making volume and making volume is cheaper.Where I disagree with you is that Birch faced play or MFMDF are far more expensive than MFC they just aren't.
Guess we will have to agree to disagree0 -
The following company is one of my customers, they will certainly be able to provide a full Walnut Kitchen, but it isn't exactly the sort of firm that would generally appear on a money saving site.
They are full bespoke cabinet makers:-

CKDesigner - By your own argument 'The problem I have with Hettich is that Nobilia use them'. The sheds and Magnet use Blum.
Grass are by far the best drawer mechanisms. Blum are good quality buy somehow just look a bit cheap and nasty and are all over the place. Nothing exclusive left about them. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
