family legal protection cover under home insurance

Dear All,

I have Family Legal Protection Cover with Churchill's under my home insurance policy. I have started a claim under this policy in October 2010 (my home insurance policy was for a year starting March 2010 & hence my policy would expire in March 2011).

Can I change my home insurer & pick a new one with a cheaper quote now that an existing claim is running under the family legal protection section?

Does changing to a new home insurer change this claim & payout in any way?

regards

You can change Insurers if you wish to, as this would not affect the current claim. You would need to tell prospective Insurers of the ongoing claim.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  • Many thanks for this reply. Obviously I am declaring this to prospective new insurers, does it affect my no claims discount (NCD) for the new insurance as I have currently 10 years NCD on my home insurance? That is, does claiming under the family legal protection section invalidate/reduce the amount/tenure of my NCD?

Any advise would be much appreciated. Many thanks again.

Usuallly the legal protection is a separate policy and underwritten by a different underwriter so it would not affect the no claims discount on your buildings / contents cover.
