Computer Mouse

I bought a Microsoft Mouse from Comet just under 12 months ago.
The mouse has worked fine all this time but recently I've noticed the rubber begin to perish badly on the scroll wheel (imagine a flat tyre going around a rim). This mouse is not used massively (I work during the day so only evening/weekend usage really), and I'm wondering where I stand with replacement or refurbishment?
I know the item is considerably small but it's not lasted 12 months and I paid £34.99 for it, as opposed to £5 odd for a mouse I would expect to last less than a year and be thrown away.
I'm a little annoyed as I deliberately paid more than I would normally for something like this because at the time I figured I'd get some prolonged, reliable use out of it and so it was worth the extra cost.
What are your thoughts?

I would ask the store and say its not fit fit purpose .
But they say you have scrolled a high mileage and that's why its worn .
If they refuse you can ask trading standards or take thwem to the small claims court write as letter to head office .
But i would personally complain to Microsoft UK in a letter not an email .
