Closing down sale @ Alworths, Llandudno. Up to 50% off.

Bit of a surprise this. Alworths is a chain of shops set up by a former director of Woolworths using the old Woolies business model. This shop opened not all that long ago in the old Woolies shop in Llandudno and sells a very similiar product range to what Woolies did including DVDs, toys, childrens clothes, kitchenwear, small DIY items and homewear.

Unfortunately it seems they were too successful in copying the Woolies business model because there's now a closing down sale on, with discounts of between 10% and 50% on pretty much everything. CDs, DVDs and video games are currently 10% off but there are some some better bargains elsewhere, especially on toys. There are Peppa Pig, Ben 10, Zhu Zhu hamsters, etc at between 30% and 50% off so if you've got kids or grandkids it might be worthwhile stocking up now in time for Christmas.

I don't know if this is just the Llandudno store that's closing or if it's entire business so possibly other stores might also have closing down sales on.

  • EVESHAM is closing too according to press reports, problems with getting leases extended is given as the reason!

  • Actually doesn't look great for the remaining stores either:

Alworths, the ‘son of Woolworths’ chain launched in the wake of the famous variety store group’s collapse, is being restructured less than 18 months after its first store opened.
Alworths, founded in 2009 by former Woolworths head of store and concession development Andy Latham, is being restructured and a change of ownership is underway. Industry sources fear a pre-pack administration is on the cards

The Llandudno store only opened in August 2010 so I can't see this being a problem with the lease, unless they went to the expense of re-fitting and stocking the premises despite only having a nine month lease.

Thanks for that op , i live in llandudno but hadn't seen the sale signs up so popped in today. Fair amount of stuff down to 50% off now. It's my daughters 4th birthday in a few weeks so got all her party invites , plates , party bags etc. all with 50% off. also got kids pjs and slippers with 50% off. Good bargains but a shame it's closing at the same time as it's gonna be yet another empty spot in llandudno for goodness how long.

Evesham is definitely closing. It just couldn't compete when Home Bargains opened in the same arcade.
Thank you to everyone for sharing competitions!
  • Alworths Llandudno store has been seized by the Landlords, who have changed the locks. All of the stock and fittings remains inside. They hadn't been paying the rent, according to the eviction notice.

Alworths in Wokingham, Berkshire also had lots of discounts and some empty looking shelves today... looks like it may be more than the one store going then.

    Debt-free and Proud!
I was at Allworths in Tiverton, Devon on Saturday and there were lots of members of staff reducing stock on the shelves. Huge bargains! A lot of things 70% off!! There were no 'closing down' signs but with the amount of stock they were reducing i wouldn't be surprised at all if they were closing soon.

    Some of my finds were:

Thomas the Tank Engine kids pyjamas - £2.10
Russel Hobbs electric food chopper £3.72
An ornamental duck (my MIL collects ducks) - £0.60

Loads of decorative items such as vases and candle holders incredibly cheap.
I'm FINALLY debt free! DFW Long Hauler #227
    LBM - Jan 2006  March 2006 -£26,725  Apr 2015 - £0!!! :j
