Hi guys,

Barclays are turning up at my door & hassling me now which is doing no good for my pregancy & high blood pressure.
Hammering on the door at all hours & putting notes through saying 'I wont go away unless you answer the door Victoria!!'
The Dogs going mental barking & Im having a meltdown hiding in the lounge :(
Anyway, Ive drafted a letter off here to send to them which will hopefully get them to B*gger off but they are still refusing my token payment offer.
They refuse to give me the sort code & account number to make payments online too as they say I have to speak to the debt collector at the door! Any idea how I can get this info so I can make my token payments?

    Hi

Sorry I know very little about these things - but I wanted you to know I was thinking of you. I'm sure someone who knows about this stuff will see your post and offer fantastic advice.

The main thing is to feel safe - do you have a friend's house you could go to this afternoon? Just to get some piece and a friendly face? Or someone who could come to you for support?

Maybe just pop out the backdoor for a walk?

Thats awful! Im pretty sure purely based on what ive read on here that they are not allowed to hassle you, there is something about if you are vulnerable - doctors note? they are not allowed to do that or they are in breach of soemthing ir toher, will go and try and find what I was reading and let you know where it is, give me a sec
  • dont answer the door and just hand up the phone, as a lady whos just had a baby and had the same issues with them its really not worth the stress!

you need to write to mercers and tell them you only wish to deal with them in writing. if you do answer the phone simply say that the person you need to speak to (ie you) is not available as she is preganat and ill, and will not be available in the near future except via written letter.

i feel for you asmercers are bullies! they never excepted my payment either so i write to barclaycard direct and informed them of the harrassment and told themi was reporting them to the financial ombudmen, i also informed them of my preganancy and pregnancy related illness which obviously the stress was not helping and said my midwife was inagreement. i told them i would love to pay them back but iDO NOT HAVE ANY MONEY! BUT CAN OFFER A TOKEN PAYMENT. and they wrote back within two weeks and accepted and apologuised!

i also did this with lloyds who while was hospitalised with my illness whilst pregnant added a whopping 1000 in charges to my account and thankfully they have refunded them and sent me a 150 cheque to apologuise!

just stay calm, i understand but dont worry at the end of the day despite ther threats they never substantiate them or take them further. i often wished while i was pregnant they would taken me to court so i could just get the dam ccj and pay what i could afford each month 'about a pound' and have done with it.

    "Debt collection visits

2.11 Those visiting debtors must not act in an unclear or threatening manner.

2.12 Examples of unfair practices are:
    a. not making the purpose of any proposed visit clear, for example, merely stating that collectors or field agents will call is not sufficient

    b. visiting a debtor when it is known they are vulnerable, for example, when a doctor's certificate has been provided stating that the debtor is ill

    c. continuing with a visit when it becomes apparent that the debtor is distressed or otherwise vulnerable, for example, it becomes apparent that the debtor has mental health problems"

if you can get a doctors cert and send it to them with one of the template letters, also see the link at the top of that topic to the govt page to help and tell you what to do, They cannot threaten you in this way and maybe there is a template pointing out that that is what they are doing, enclosing doctors cert and telling them that you will persue the matter legally if they continue

*hugs* good luck, keep us posted x

trouble is with the bullies they think that they will get paid in preference to any other people you owe to if they make the most noise etc, its a disgusting way to behave and all for £110!

try and look after yourself and the bump, but I would really lay down the law with them as they seem to be contravening the rules to me
  • its makes me so angry to think of the debt collector they are rude and have no idea the stress they put on us, im fairly sure they think we are not paying them because we dont want to not becausewe simply dont have the cash, ive spent many times on the phones in tears saying look im sorry i dont have any money! my husband was made redunant and i cant magic money, i didnt even have food in the fridge! barclarys and barclaycard, makes me hate capitalism! bloody basards!

Has there been a ccj? If not, tell these people at your door to go away. Keep the notes they put through the door - that is harrassment! If they don't go call the police.

    Good luck
