Car insurance for drivers under 25

For those parents who are considering purchasing motor car insurance for their child(ren) I urge them to reconsider and read the following culled from the current AA's website.

'BRAKE, the motoring safety charity says 1 in 8 drivers in the UK is under 25. One quarter of driver deaths are in this age group'.

'The Association of British Insurers (ABI) say, ' drivers under 21 are 10 x's more likely to have an accident than those over 35. Female drivers under 21 are 5 x's more likely to have an accident than those over 35'.

If no-one drove until they were 25, don't you think the figures would just be moved up an age group?
A new driver is a new driver, when you get experience the accident rate will fall.
I urge them to start saving early.

Less experience of driving, less money so can only afford a small, old basic car and less mature in their actions. Those are the reasons why under 25s have more fatal accidents. Not sure I agree with not allowing them to drive to solve this, how are people supposed to get to work? I expect a lot of the accidents were caused by people doing stupid things and the more mature young drivers would be discriminated against.

I think a good proportion of accidents involving young drivers are because they are showing off to their friends. I'm sure we have all been at the lights and some stupid corsa/106/saxo pulls up beside you full of young blokes and attempts to 'race'. Age is not the issue its maturity levels and some peope thinking they are invincible (no matter the age)

We'll just all believe in your alternative reallity should we, where experience doesn't matter, if you start driving at 25 you'll be just as safe as someone who has already been driving for 8 years in our reallity?

It's a fact that first time drivers over the age of 25 have less accidents than first time drivers under the age of 20. So laugh it up, Mr Laughy. I seriously worry about the "advice" you churn out on this forum. Remind me, how many years have you worked in insurance?

There's a lot less of them, of course there's fewer accidents.

More mature first time drivers are better drivers and have less accidents, comparatively, than younger first time drivers. However you want to paint it what you said in post #2 is wrong. Now, about your insurance experience, you're an armchair insurance expert, right?
