Two toddler beds - Freecycle advice

Hi

Not sure I'm on the right board but here goes....

I've got two toddler beds that I need to get rid of. Twins are now going in "big boy" beds. lol.

Anyway, they are from Ikea, nowt wrong with the frames, so it seems a shame to just take them to the tip (new mattresses can be bought to fit). I am just about to list them on Freecycle....anyone get any tips?

I can't deliver so eventually I'll have to give out my home address. Should I list my mobile number or home number? Can I delete the ad once they have gone (hopefully!). lol. Maybe no-one will want them!

Anyway, any Freecycle tips are welcome! Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu!

You won't have to give out your address or phone number to anyone but the person you choose from the lots of replies you'll probably get. Don't put personal details on the offered ad, just your approx location.
Do specify it's collection only as some people expect the moon on a stick lol.
  • Definitely don't put contact numbers on the initial post! I'd say something like;

'Offered: 2 toddler beds (and then the first part of your postcode)

2 toddler beds, good condition, approximate dimensions and say if you're willing to separate.

Must be collected at (weekend/evening/whenever you're at home) sorry, I cannot deliver.

    Thanks'

then wait for responses, pick someone and reply to them. I only give out my details after they've responded to my 'I'd like you to have the item if you're still interested 'response and confirmed when they can collect - that way I don't give my details out to a person who doesn't reply and could potentially just drop round when they feel like and get !!!!!y that the items gone!

    Good luck :D

Think the others have covered the basics but yes you can delete the advert, just keep the confirmation email they send and that gives you a link to do it. :)

Thanks all, just waiting for the Moderator to approve my post and then I'm hoping I'll be able to give the beds to a new home :D

Are these Leksvik ones by chance? Lovely beds ... nice of you to freecycle them as they would probably sell well on eBay.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

And what a lot of the people who ask for them will be thinking!

Goodness me, no....Leksvik were too expensive at the time, lol! They are Ikea beds though (Kritter), only £50 quid for the frame but they are in such good condition it's a tragedy to dump them.

Freecycle have got my ad up now and I've already had some interest.

It'll be great if someone can make use of them :j

    ......they've gone!

Hopefully, I have someone coming tomorrow to pick the beds up.

Really chuffed. Only heard about Freecycle here on MSE. Would have just tipped them otherwise.

They still sell for £20 each on eBay ... so I hope the person is genuine/grateful for your generosity! :-)

I listed a couple of kids things on yesterday and to each one of my posts I had people replying with just "Yes please" or "I will take" or "Call me on 07xxxxxx to collect". Really annoys me as they will almost certainly not have a genuine need for it.

I always allow some time for a number of replies and pick what I think is a genuine cause.

Yes, I may be getting ahead of myself. Let's see if they turn up tomorrow. Apparently it's a pregnant woman, already has a young son. I did get a few replies, but hers just caught my eye so to speak.

    I really hope she's genuine.
