Sky Broadband

I know others have slated how poor Sky broadband is so I was a little relived when Sky didn't follow up when I registered an interest with them a couple of months ago.

Out of curiousity I looked at their website today and entered my home phone number.

The website says they haven't got Sky basic, mid or Max available in my area by they have got something called Sky connect.

Now maybe I'm not terribly technically aware, but the speed & download limits of Sky connect are exactly the same as Sky mid, but Sky connect costs £17 a month whereas Sky mid costs £5 a month.

It seems to me they don't seem to have a lot of incentive to roll out their other packages or am I just being cynical?

It means they haven't got their equipment in your exchange at the moment, so are having to re-sell a BT wholesale product, like the vast majority of other ISPs do. Due to the cost BT wholesale charge ISPs, the cost to the end user will be higher than if the ISP has their own equipment in the exchanges, they will have to pass on this extra charge, as it would be too much to absorb, same way as TalkTalk pass on the charge until your exchange is LLU'd.

If you enter your telephone number into: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/phoneno.php this will give you a list of LLU providers (these are the ISPs with their own equipment in the exchange) it will also give you a date that an ISP should have their equipment in. For Sky look for 'easynet'. Many ISPs just re-sell a BT wholesale product so won't be listed.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Don't be in too much of a hurry to switch to Sky - I really wish we hadn't    .

We were supposed to have our broadband up and working on August 25th and we still don't have a resolution in sight!

First Sky had forgotten to get the switch over carried out by BT, despite me providing them with the MAC and all relative details at the time of ordering. Some weeks later when we finally got switched over we found - when we could get a connection at all - the service was slower than dial-up, e.g. seven minutes to download a page! Sky finally admitted they couldn't give us the max package speed we were paying for and reduced it to the £5 per month, but only after lots of calls to their technical department on their 0870 number(since they'd disabled the land-line). .

After three months I still can't use Sky e-mail or access any of their web pages since the username and password they supplied by letter comes up as "Log-in details incorrect". Their technies advised us to contact customer services to get new details sent out and I did this six weeks ago, via the 0870 number again. Have I had a reply? Have I heck as like  .

I've just e-mailed them again today, since they hadn't replied to my last e-mail, sent last week to ask when we might receive what we signed up for.

I'd go to cable tomorrow, if I thought we would be able to move trouble free    .
