Community Care Grants

Hi folks!
Havent posted for a while so please bear with me!
Id like some advice about community care grants.
We live in a council property and have a level base shower.
We have recently asked the council adaptations team if they would be able to provide us with an adapted (walk in) bath to replace the shower and we have been told that we can have a bath put in but would have to pay for one ourselves and they are not cheap!! Ive been told to apply for a community care grant as I get IS as a carer, CA and my partner receives DLA middle rate care. But Ive looked at info re community care grants on the DWP site and it states that they will not pay a CCG for changes that need to be made to a council property! Will this still be the case even if i tell them that the council will not replace the shower? Will i need to send them proof? More to the point, will they even pay out for a walk in bath? cos they arent bloody cheap!
Any help will be greatly appreciated as I have never had or even applied for a community care grant before so have no idea what they will pay out for, how much you can apply for etc.
Many thanks in advance.
