How good or bad is the Potterton Suprema 70?

I have looked at a house today which i'm considering putting an offer in on.

It has the above boiler in. I don't know at this stage how old the boiler is or if it's reliable or not?

I'm wondering if I need to factor in the cost of a replacement in my offer for the house?

It's a 3 bed semi by the way. If I was to have it replaced, what would be a good make and roughly what would the cost be please?

I seem to recall that these boilers did have a poor reputation - I may be wrong and someone will confirm - I'm not sure if you'll be able to get anything knocked off if it's working though.

Some suprimas had a PCB fault meaning that at some point the PCB and wiring harness needed to be replaced.

Other than that, they are extremely reliable boilers with no other particular faults.

MkI PCB was totally carp. I had an early Suprima 50 with constant lock-out probs. I replaced the PCB with later version and no probs since and it's been very reliable. Its early reputation was warranted but latterly has been rather exaggerated and continues to be by some who appear to have an axe to grind.

If you allow £2½k in your calcs you'll have some money left over should you replace but if it were me as a seller I would not accept a reduction to an agreed price on the basis of internet chit chat. Mind you you'll not be offering the full asking anyway will you? :D

    Cheers

Can't think of a new suprima pcb that has failed yet.

Gas valves haven't been too sharp either.

Check if yours has the new pcb.

If you were to replace your Boiler I would recommend Vaillant. They are German designed, so have a good reputation for quality and relaibilty - doesn't everything that's german?

Can't give you a quote on the internet- you need to get a Gas Safe Registered engineer to visit your home and quote for what you really need.

    Good luck selling your house!
