Help getting housing for friend

Hi
Sorry not posted on this topic before so apologies if it should go elsewhere!
I have a friend who is quite ill suffering a long term disability and gets motability car etc
She currently lives at home with her parents but this is making her worse as she is also suffering depression which is getting worse by the situation at home. Her family tend to lean on her to support them.
She needs her own independence if she is to get better at least with the depression (which would help her cope better with her disability)
Is there anyway she could apply for house/flat or does the fact that she lives with her family go against her?

Don't get me wrong she'd never just want to claim anything and everything, she's worked hard all her life in decent jobs abc would love to go back to work and feel normal again but she has to face facts at the moment and just look at getting better!

Any advice welcome ( I know she comes on these forums so I hops she doesn't mind me posting this x)

She could apply for social housing, but she is not likely to be high on the list as she does have accom at present. Alternatively, she could rent privately?

And there, in a succinct nutshell, are her options :D

Thanks for responding, I dont think private renting is an option or she would have jumped at it years ago. She's a very proud lady so I think looking at housing is last resort but needs must to get her head together. Plus she will also need something on the ground floor as struggles with stairs and is only going to get worse as she gets older.

Could you ask why private renting is not an option? A proud lady is unlikely to be comfortable in most council accom.

I doubt she could afford private renting although I've not looked into it myself. I will get her to look at all options though as she needs to do something.
Tbh I'm not very familiar with the benefit system so don't really know how things work and don't like to pry into her financials ( I know when she had to stop work suddenly she had to agree to do one if these payment plan things)

She may get help with the rent, depending on her circumstances.

Ok thanks, is the housing the best people to speak to or cab or maybe the disability dept (if there is such a thing)

If she's not working, she'll have to claim benefits to pay for the rent and council tax whether she's in council or privately rented accommodation.

Is her disability such that she'd need adaptations to any accommodation she rents?
