Hitachi TV problem

Options
Hi, our Hitachi TV has started displaying the tube no. & the chassis number on the screen all the time & we can't find a way to get rid of it.The TV is about 10 years old. Are there any TV repair men out there who could help me please?

This exact same thing happened to us 1 week before christmas 2003. Our Hitatchi dolby pro logic tv had a serial number permanently on screen and it was driving us nuts. The only way we could watch tv was on text/mix. We scoured the internet and found a site that gave simple commands to use using the remote control. The problem was solved within a very short time.
  • Hi Purdy,
I'm glad you solved your problem but I don't suppose you could hazard a clue to which website or where to find it could you please?
  • Hi,
we managed to solve the problem. I searched the internet & found this site
    https://www.e-repair.co.uk
where tv engineers post problems & solutions for many different makes of tv's,vcr's,monitors etc
It took a bit of struggling with the remote but I can now watch the soaps without going boggle-eyed !!
  • Hey niceone, seems a decent site!

Thanks for posting the site as well. Took me weeks to find the hack for the engineers menu on my thomson 32". If it helps anyone, with the TV on standby, on the front of the TV (NOT the remote, it doesnt work) hold down the CHANNEL DOWN and VOLUME DOWN buttons in for 10 seconds. It will then bring up a wealth of menus where you can change everything on the TV.

Be very careful before you change anything though! Take notes of every setting before you change it, and only if you understand what it does. This solved my problem where there was approx half an inch of picture was off the screen, noticeable with film credits and stuff where the first letter was just off the screen, tweaked the geometry and its all dandy again. Saved a call out fee for someone to come and do that.

    Again, be careful :)
