Is there nothing that can be done?
Let's answer the question first... yes, of course there is.

There doesn't seem to be any way of getting money back from this company...
Why not write them a letter before action and follow that if necessary with action in the small claims court?

I paid £39.99 by debit card and have probably therefore lost my money.
Clearly you have not yet read the MSE Guide to Section 75 refunds. There is a bit at the bottom of that article about debit card refunds that you might find useful.

Links to help with those things and further advice on how to recover your money can be found in the READ ME FIRST PLEASE thread.
  • I have also been stung by this company and am trying to get a refund. I would advise that we all contact Consumer Direct and Watchdog. Another thread also suggests that we report them to their website host as this may get the site closed, even if only temporarily. The e-mail is abuse @ rackspace dot co dot uk, there is even a facebook page called games basement fail to warn people about this company
  • This Company are Truley Shocking!

When I placed my order for £28.99 the item was in stock I chose the free delivery option so expected within 3-5 days, This was the 12th April! Its Now the 28th April and Nothing Received. Ive Got two numbers for them from Saynoto0870 website that continuously ring no answer from either, I get an occassional reply to my email complaints that it will be despatched within 48 hours!

These need to be shut down! I have notified my Bank that they have taken money but recieved nothing, have to wait till 6th May then they will Investigate it.

I have had trouble with this company as well.

We ordered a game in December 2010 for Xmas. It did not turn up by Xmas, so come mid January - we allowed them a bit of leeway due to the adverse weather affecting deliveries - we asked for a refund. All phone calls were either not answered, put down on us, or simply told to complete and post a form - which despite sending 3, including one registered post, they claimed they never received.

In the end, I contacted my credit card company and put the payment into dispute. A week later, my card was refunded.

Now comically, Gamesbasement have actually given me my money back, so I am now £40 up on the deal! I guess I will have to let my credit card company know though.
