Slate worktop fitting

Hi,
My partner and I are hoping to put a new kitchen in our new house, and do as much we can ourselves.
We love the idea of slate worktops, and have found a reclamation yard that sells old pool table tops that look perfect.
The yard could cut them to the right size for us, but would we be able to fit these ourselves?
And how exactly do you fix a stone worktop to wooden cabinets?
Thanks very much,
Gill

Slate is not a great product for worktops, unless you're actually looking for the centuries old beaten up look.
Relatively speaking it is a soft material and will mark easily and noticeably.
However, if that doesn't convince you not to have them, find a stone mason who will undertake the cutting and installation for you, it's not a DIY thing (unless of course you're going for an Arts and Crafts beaten up look!)0
