Can a credit card company change my statement/payment due dates without telling me? Should they even change the dates at all?
I have a credit card for using online/emergencies and I pay it off in full every month.
The statement date was 24th and payment to be received after 18th of following month. I always pay it off and I know anything I spend after the statement on 24th will come out of the following months wages.
I've had an ongoing issue for the last 5 months - the online statement doesn't show up on my account until a week or two after it should have done. I put this down to them being taken over by the evil Santander.
So February 24th my statement still hasn't appeared but based on the last few months I don't worry too much. I know it'll turn up late. It's car insurance time so I shop around online and pay with my credit card on 26th.
My statement finally turns up but the statement date has changed to the 2nd of the month and as I paid for my insurance before then I need to pay by the new payment date of either 21st or 25th of March (statement says 25th but the online account says due by 21st - I have no idea which is right).
This is a bit  as my insurance is the biggest thing I ever buy online and now I need to pay it out of this months wages which are already accounted for. I actually have less in my current account than my insurance will be (I'd use my savings but I've just spent them on my first holiday in 5 years).
I'll survive, someone will lend me the money until I'm paid but I'm annoyed that Santander can just change the dates. Especially without warning me.
Sorry this is long but I want to know if I should challenge them and ask for the dates to be put back to normal (this will involve lengthy phone calls with a poorly paid person overseas who can barely speak English if my previous experience with Santander is anything to go by). If they are allowed to mess about with dates I won't bother wasting my time.
Should I do anything or not?
I'm looking round for a new credit card but having problems finding somewhere that doesn't want me to earn a certain amount - I'm part-time and don't earn a lot.

Unfortunately they can change the dates however this is rather a large change. Still above board, though.
You could always pay a bit this month and the rest next. Yes this will incur a small interest charge but should alleviate the financial strain of clearing the whole thing.
Then perhaps consider changing your credit card provider to one issued by a proper bank, not the worst in the country (Santander)?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Good for you ! Personally I wouldn't bother challenging them about your credit card issues, you will only end up angry and frustrated at not getting it sorted :mad:0 -
Thanks Erics Mum.
Santander seem to get everywhere  I already changed my current account as they took over A&L.0
