HMRC Old Tax Back Over Payment Cheque

Sorry, don't know if this is the correct board.

I have just found a cheque which I was sent from the Inland Revenue for over payment of income tax. Cheque is dated November 2004. Would I still be able to put this into my bank account? If not, will they issue a new one? Or is it too old for me to do anything about it?

It's only for a small amount under £10 but as they say, better in my pocket than theirs.

your bank is unlikely to accept it, but you can write and ask HMRC if they will issue you a replacement cheque.

Think you have 6 months to present a cheque from the date of issue

As above plead to their better nature to issue another although because from a different financial year its highly unlikely they will but you don't get if you don't ask!
