From Indian Call Centres....the above are the most recent the list goes on and on and....

these are 'companies' are using 'UK' numbers
    http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Calls.aspx/084
    http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Calls.aspx/087
the list goes on and on and on.....

The TPS DOES NOT WORK......you are all deluding yourselves if you believe it does.

The answer is for the UK market to be properly regulated and policed.
The TPS is a scheme operated and policed by the Marketing Industry. The ICO, Ofcom and others are Industry facing and represent the interests of the Marketing Industry-not the interests of the public!

SELF REGULATION IS BAD FOR CONSUMER PROTECTION.

The problem with mass-marketing calls from abroad has to be addressed at Government and Network Operator level.

What YOU dont understand is that she has CLI, that is NOT the issue.

She gets these calls and wonders WHY they are calling and this is upsetting her.

She then tries to answer these calls and cannot understand the people and it just makes her worse.

She is an old lady, telling her not to do this doesnt work.

We are going to have the calls traced now and report them to the police. Maybe a little over the top but as no one has offered a better solution, that is the only option available.

This IS harassment, why should ANYONE have to put up with that.
Heinz's suggestion is quite reasonable, especially as she already has CLI. Respectfully, as you point out that she gets upset not knowing what it is about and she is old, this is not really a problem which hasa telecoms answer that can be implemented by an ordinary telecoms user.

Thats the best bet...maybe not swearing at them (hard I know lol). If your there when it happens, get as much detail from them as possible as to who they are, what company they are working for, then report them to the TPS if possible.

I've told them to be put though to a manager in the past and told them I consider the calls to be harassment (I was getting a couple a week at most), not heard back from them since. Might be worth a go.

If not...ask them what they are wearing...amazing how quickly they put the phone down when you start talking dirty to them xD.
What is pi? Where did it come from?

Perhaps there is - but it'll involve expenditure of considerably more than the £2 or so I suggested in post #5.

Truecall devices attract very good reports and have the advantage of preventing the phone ringing until after the call has been vetted against its ignore list. Not cheap but very effective.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Not as I read it. Truecall would be my weapon of choice too for the calls - based on recommendation here, rather than actual experience. But if OPs mother is insistent on winning the battle by telling them to go away.

TPS doesn`t work, I have been registered with them for two years and still received marketing calls, many from the UK too. :(
The latest calls I got were from the Halifax, a company I`ve never had anything to do with. Despite explaining that and asking them not to call again they did, often up to twelve times a day. In desperation I contacted my phone/ISP provider, Plusnet, who were sympathetic but in the end I have to pay four pounds a month to have anonymous call reject plus a further four pounds a month to have nuisance calls rejected. On top of what I usually pay per quarter, that`s quite an increase for me on a limited budget but like the OP`s mum, these calls can be extremely distressing. When you`re in the house alone all day and these calls are continuous, and in some cases, they don`t even disconnect when YOU hang up!
There really should be tougher laws on such things, many vulnerable people are left anxious and extremely stressed by them.
OP, if you mum can afford it, even though it isn`t fair, I agree, I do suggest paying for the caller reject option. In the end it`s worth it for the peace of mind, because even if you use the police to deal with one number, others tend to spring up in my experience. Good luck and your mum has all my sympathy.

Yeh I'm registered with TPS, and have call blocking for callers not displaying the number of the phone calling.
Doesn't help with all these foreign calls though.
The easiest thing for your Mother to do, is just hang up when she realises who it is. What is the point in them calling, if nobody speaks to them when they do.
Giving them feedback just keeps the problem going.

I like tormenting the cold callers....."Can I speak to Mr ***** please", to which I respond "NO!"....."Well is Mrs ***** there then?"....."NO!"......"Is the houseowner there then?"...."NO!"

    They usually hang up first.
