Thought I had cancelled TalkTalk, being chased by debt collectors

My 18 month contract with TalkTalk was finished on 27 October 2010, we moved house slightly before then, so phoned up to cancel it on November 1st. Cancelled with TalkTalk and with the bank.
Now, I have Roxburghe debt collectors chasing me for £147. I phoned TalkTalk, they said my account was still active and they had no record of my request to cancel.
TalkTalk said it can take 28 days for them to go through recorded phone logs and actually confirm that I said "Cancel my account" or words to that effect.
I tried speaking to someone in Accounts at TalkTalk about getting Roxburghe off my back until they got their crap together, and got hung up on. Never did like talktalk, but is there anything more proactive that I can do to get rid of this bill that I should not have?

Write to the DCA telling them the account is in dispute and you will not communicate with them until the dispute procedure has been finalised.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
