Phamtom dog poos..

My dog seems to be passing stools fine, i took him out this morning and he had no problems.

However the last couple of days they were rather soft stools and he was also doing it little and often, now however they have gone back to normal however he seems to try to go repeatedly and although nothing is coming out he is also scuffing up the ground each time, he seems fine in himself.

Just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar... with there dog that is ;)

Sometimes when dogs are "scooting" their bum on the floor etc. it can be to do with their anal glands?

If it is a problem they can be "emptied" my dog get this done regularly at the groomers as part of a full groom. Can be done by Vets / vet nurses too.

Prob best to get it checked out?

Thanks for the reply, I know what you mean about the scooting but its not that. He is going through the motions as if he was going for a pooh but without producing an actual stool.

He's eatting and drinking fine and is ok in himself so will give him the weekend and then see I guess.

I've been trying to google but every thread relates to constipation which isnt the case here.

My pup did this, and eventually passed a stool containing a chewed up ribbon!

If hes not gone for 24 hrs Id ring the vet for advice. He could have swallowed something that hes struggling to pass.

Sometimes a little bit of poo gets wedged inside the anus which triggers the 'toilet' action, but nothing gets passed. This is quite common and should be looked at by a vet. He will then clean out the dog's anus. Really nice job! Dog should then be a lot happier as the irritation will have gone.
