Voluntary redundancy - selection criteria?

I was told yesterday that either myself or another girl I work with are going to be made redundant, but in the first instance they are looking for volunteers. I have already volunteered, but from talking to my work colleague, I get the impression she also wants to volunteer, but she is taking some more time to think about it.

So, if both of us volunteer, does anyone know how they are likely to decide between us? Im assuming that first come served doesnt apply here. The other girl has worked there longer than me so she would be looking at a bigger redundancy package than me.

Thanks for any info

AIUI, they can choose who they like, the normal fair selection criteria no longer apply.

How easy would it be to replace both of you if you both left?

Do you have a job to goto or just want out.

There are tactics you could try but all are risky, hinting you have a job to go to that would leave then with no one ifthey made the other one redundant

other option is just await and see what happens.

if the VR enhanced, basic statutory redundancy is max £400 for each year worked so not much.
  • I had to get out as the person that is kept on is going to have a lot of changes made to their contract with regard to working location, hours etc, which I can't accomodate as I am a single parent and have childcare issues.

I got the call earlier they have accepted my redundancy. Thank you for replying though
