Has anyone bought a compost bin from Aldi or Lidl?

I have seen the Lidl one in store yesterday, and it seems that it includes the base as well, so for £19.99 not a bad price.

There is one on offer in Aldi this weekend, a little bit smaller, which I think might be better for me, but I am not sure if that one includes the base plate as well.

The Aldi one looks like Keter composter that Argos sell for £39.99, and the reviews are that it is very flimsy and is easily blown over before you fill it up a bit.

I think they are both the same make - they look so similar to the ones on Keter website, one is called Eco, and other one I think Super. Might have to go to Lidl again and see if there are still some left.

(And yes - I am looking probably extremes going from Earthmaker for £130 to these ones sub £25. Keeping my options open!)

The Lidl one has 4 access hatches, so I would definitely go for that. I didn't think of that when I got mine (well, they were only a fiver from the council so I can't complain) but to get the compost out from the depths means lying down with your arm inside it, scooping it out! :rotfl:

I have the Lidl composter( purchased last year), it is quite large but hidden behind some bushes. It was a bit awkward to put together, but once up it's ok, and pretty sturdy, the base plate comes with some ground pegs too, to keep it in place.

Thanks for the review of the compost bin, but more so for the tour of your garden. I've just been for a nosey, there's some lovely pics in there. I know it's off topic but how did your potatoes go, did you get many off them.

I want the man with a hedge trimmer for under £30 ;);)

I think both are a bit small, especially the aldi one, can you not get a Dalek one from your local council for about £6?

You will need to layer veg peelings, shredded paper, grass cuttings.

In fact once you own a composter, you will realise just how much you can put in, and layering helps to get the best stuff out. I layered up fresh horse muck along with the above, it's feeling warm and looking great .

Ours work out much dearer. The base plate is seperate at £10 each and you have to pay £5 delivery. Smaller 330l ones are £16 so even with their offer of getting a second one half price they work out more.

Our council's cheapest one is 220l one for £14, plus £7.5 for the plate, plus delivery £5, and it is already £26.50. so more expensive that any of these. I don't have space for 2 of them, so no use of multi-buy for me.

I went to Lidl after visiting the recycling centre with the last of the rubbish (ivy etc) and bought the composter. It looks very similar to ThermQuick Express Composter that is £67 on greenfingers.

I like both the compost bins. However with some wood and chicken wire its cheaper to create your own.
