Replacing Manhole Covers

I need to replace a few 'manhole' covers in my garden measuring 470 x 630mm. I think they are for sewage & drainage access.

These seem to be similar, but are quoted as having dimensions of 450 x 600mm. Are all covers a standard size, and they are just quoting an approximate nominal size?

Does anyone know a cheap local supplier (Jewsons, B&Q etc) since delivery from this site is rather steep.

    no they are not standard.
i replaced one about 5 yrs ago now for my DD. got it from a local drains/pipe/plumbers merchants.
they had lots of sizes in stock.
the other way to do it is to replace the whole thing inc the frame. if you cannot find the correct size cover.
    Get some gorm.

It's so rusted I can't even see a frame! The item does include a frame.

It does look identical, I have never seen one at 470x630.

Here's another, is that the black frame round the outside? they always quote 450 x600 for this sort of size

The 600x450 is generally the size of the actual opening - the cover itself will be slightly larger so the one you've found probably is the right one. If in doubt, pop along to your local bandq and physically measure the ones they have there. They cost around £17 in store.

They are light in weight and easily picked up locally. It is hardly necessary to buy on line. The black frame is made of plastic nowadays for covers for domestic traffic.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

I got a standard one from wickes for around £17. The turf needed digging out a bit for the frame, Still a bit wobbly, but it should bed in. Old frame came away in rusty bits, some bits mixed with soil falling into the sewer, difficult to avoid.
