More windows!

Options
Ok, I've read through a lot of posts on here and I still can't decide which of these to go with.

1st quote (just to see what it could be like) Everest, pushy salesman who did all the calling the manager rubbish even though i'd already said not to bother. Eventually said 7k after he'd applied all his discounts. Got the hump when we said we wanted other quotes, didn't even want to shake hands at the end.

2nd quote - vvery reputable local firm. They use Profile22 frames which look really good. Quality seems to match Everest (who had a good product just pricey). They would fit the windows properly and said it would take a few days to do. The can't fit them for a few months though, very busy. Quote for 8 windows, mix of casement + tilt & turn upstairs including new mahogony surrounds for all the frames and new sills just over £6k. Salesman admitted that a joiner would be "about half the price" but that a joiner would only be able to fit trade windows not custom made and the quality was likely to be lower.

3rd quote - recommended joiner. All 10 windows (other 8 plus two tiny ones by front door that don't even open) £3.5k. Same ideas on fitting and he'd get the stuff from a company using EuroCell frames www.eurocell.co.uk and Pilkington Glass. Says made to measure (measured up a bit smaller than the previous company though) but said he'd be back to take more accurate measurements if we went ahead. Also replacing all surrounds and sills with mahogany.

The dilemma is - do we go with the firm we know do this as a main job and have been around for 20 years and do seem to have a brilliant product or do we save a fair wedge of money, get more for it and just go with ones that will do a decent job?

The windows from the joiner seem to be A rated at least so i figure the difference in energy saving will not be that much if we have the slightly better frames?

The thing that puts me off is that buying direct gives a good warranty etc but using joiner chap doesn't give the same sort of protection, he's a one man band. However, he said he doesn't want paying until the job is done. He can get the windows and do them with a week's notice he says.

any thoughts? Particularly on the frame options. Does it make that much difference?

thanks!

What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
