advice re deposit paid

to keep things brief, we were supplied with a hire car whilst ours was under repair ( accident) we were asked for a cash deposit of £50 for the full fuel tank, the car was collected on Saturday ( with full tank) and were told we would receive a cheque by return post nothing as yet how long is reasonable wait ? accident not our fault the other party accepted full liability,
