Bank account to use in australia

I am travelling to Australia and working at sea for 6 months
can you suggest a suitable bank account that I can pay money/wages into whilst in Australia that I can access in either country? HSBC have said to open one in Australia but I have been told I will need an address over there which I won't have working at sea!
any ideas???

It depends on the currency your wages will be paid in.

If you are paid in sterling and what you want is to get cash anywhere in the world without ATM fees and exchange commissions, Metro Bank is the way to go. You need to open the account in person at a London branch, though.

However, if you are been paid in AU$, your best bet would be to try to open an account over there. There must be a bank which is sympathetic with your situation, especially if you work for an Aussie company and get paid in AU$.
  • You might want to look at Westpac - Australia's oldest bank. They've got the largest coverage of ATM's and you can open an account from the UK before you get there.

Details can be found on their website here:

    Hope this helps
