PC World Replacement Laptop Question

Hello, I recently got a laptop from PC World (Dec 2010) , the left mouse button sunk fairly quickly and was getting worse and for the price i payed for the laptop i wasnt happy.

I contacted PC World hand was informed that would be picked up and fixed. It has since came back twice both times sent back straight away as the button is actually worse (it now no longer clicks and is still sunk!)

It will be over the 28 days that i was told would be max and as a result the agent on the phone has agreed that it will now be checked and then written off and i will be able to get a replacement (whether or not this is true i shall see)

Altho my laptop is only a few month old it appears pc world no longer sell it and i cant find a laptop that matches it spec at any price (it has 3d screen , bluray writer, windows 7 64bit , i7 processor etc) which was my first issue, however i cant find any machine at the price i payed that remotely matches it , I have the laptop on finance and havent actually payed any of it yet - i dont want to have to accept a lesser device than what i accepted in my finance agreement, hate it and still have to pay at the end of the year if that makes sense.

My question is , is the replacement of similar value or similar spec?

i would reject fully under the Sales of Goods Act for your money back and avoid Puk World at all costs...

Why avoid PC World? They wouldn't have done any different than any other supplier and a laptop of brand X and model y is going to be exactly the same quality as another shop selling brand X and model Y.

The fault it had usually requires the entire palmrest to be replaced. There is no other fix.

I had a similar problem. Laptop back and supposedly fixed four or five times.

I got a laptop of the same monetary value-so an improved spec-but I did have to call the manager and detail my ENTIRE tale of woe IN DETAIL in front of the whole queue at the queries desk, in a polite but extremely carrying voice...
    import this

Not exactly very helpful in your post.

What price you paid, what make and model (a Toshiba at a guess) would help and have you actually been into PcWorld and checked if they still have stock (not just that store, but they can check other stores, the Central Distribution Center) and order it in.
Or did you just check the website.

Sorry , I havent actually went to the store (as its out of the area im just asking so i no what is the worse case) , i went online to pc-world.co.uk and noticed it no longer for sale (only refurbs for almost same price i payed for it)

the laptop is a toshiba a665 (but with a i7 740 processor , not the i5 that is still being sold) with 3d screen + glasses and bluray writer etc ... it was £999 but got 10% NHS Discount - all of this to be paid on finance (so i payed 10% when got laptop , will pay the rest by end of year - havent paid anymore since at moment)

my issue is i dont want to get a voucher or what ever for 900 or even 999 and not be able to get a laptop at the same specs , but from what has been said i believe the spec doesnt come into place with pc worl replacement?

Few things to understand, PcWorld don't have to replace Spec for spec(unless under WEH), most of the time they can and do as discount is minimal.

And you can't go by whats on the PcWorld website, that just shows the main deals that most stores have a majority of stock of. So long as there is a store or two with the same model they can get it ordered in so, I'd go in and actually check (either pop into PcWorld or Currys or even phone up, they all use the same Eclipse system).

Also you'r laptop doesn't get written off, under the first year of warranty the shop/store just returns your one as opened (adds to stock file) and sells you a new one. They then go about getting your old one repaired etc etc. You don't have to physically have the laptop to hand back (I.E if its already in their care at the KnowHow Repair Center) but you must take everything that you got back into the store.

    thank you for your reply.

i understand that the website is not always the same as the store - i just wanted to know what would happen if it turns out its not available.

i dont understand ' most of the time they can and do as discount is minimal.'

My issue still is the fact I bought the laptop for the features it has , if the laptop has a fault which was then made worse by the people who suppose to fix it a couple month after i bought it do i have to accept a different model?
