DCA Letter for unlisted account

Hi
I've been reading all the great stuff on the site and knew I would get a helpful answer to my question.
I have received a letter from Lowell Portfolio regarding an account which in all fairness I know belongs to me asking that I pay. The account was for a mobile phone contract, (I was young and thought it didn't matter if I paid, then avoided the issue like the plague), but the account isn't listed on my credit report. My question is, as the account isn't on my report, should I pay it?
A little history before you answer though:
I have 6 accounts on my credit report.. One is my bank account, one is a student load which is satisfactory and settled (the full amount, not a settlement), one is an account I have with Cash Plus called Credit Builder which is satisfactory with a balance of £19 (3 more payments left, hurahh).
The other 3 are where the problems start. One of these is an account with Lowell which is Default (8 - Yes, I know, I had a bad time) but which was satisfied last year.
They know that I live at my address so it's not worth ignoring the letter. Plus, in January they searched my report and I was a little too quick in writing to them asking them why. They responded that they could search on behalf of the phone company, made two unrecorded enquiries and now I get the letter.
Sorry for rambling.
Should I ignore the letter or send them a subject access letter? That's like admitting the debt though right? How about one of these statute barred letters? Would it work in this situation?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

How long since you last made a payment or acknowledged this debt in writing?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi, thanks for the responce
To my knowledge, other than requesting why Lowell searched my profile, I have never confirmed this debt in writing. When it first defaulted I ignored the letters. (I guess this is a case of: It's not how far you run.. rather how long)
It's not specific, but this debt is from 5 years ago. I was 19-20 when I signed the contract and am almost 26, so give or take a year.
Would paying the other debt I had with them be working against me?0 -
Hi discord,
A debt becomes statute barred when it is 6 or more years since any payment etc has been made towards it, so if you think it's 5 years, then they are certainly going to pursue the debt before the 6 year period. It's up to you whether or not you pay the debt, although I'd imagine it's fairly small as it's linked to a mobile phone.
Good luck whatever you decide
RedIf you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.
