PRIMUS SAVER-Think Ive been scammed

Hi all

I recently decided to change over to TALK TALK from Primus and separate AOL Broadband as TALK TALK package a lot cheaper on deal got and been ok so far BUT....

I just looked at my E-Billing and noticed Primus have charged me over an extra £122 in January the month when I cancelled and moved to Talk Talk. I spoke to someone at Primus and told them on around the 8th and recieved an email on the 10/1/11 saying they have recieved confirmation and it will be deactivated for Primus on the 20/1/11 when my Talk Talk started. I was told there would be no charges for leaving as I was out of 12 month contract so I didnt bother looking and have now just looked over my statement and bank statement and noticed they have taken £150.04 with only £2.14 being call charges, £25.01 being VAT and a whopping £122.89 on charges, credits and adjustments for the period 15 Dec to 14th Jan dated the 31/1/11. Think they have maybe stung me for another years line rental is all I can think, is this so and can they do this, or can i get my money back-cant believe it! Normally charges are around £10 or £11 so I cannot see where this is from especially as I was told there would be no charges-bet that phone conversation wasnt recorded!

Have sent an email and will phone them tomorrow but has this happened to anyone else?

Cheers

When did you move your line rental to Primus?

Primus line rental plans have an 18 month contract length and are subject to a 30 day notice period.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Have you got this in writing from them? Did their email say this? If not, you may well be stuck. As said above. 18 month contract.

However if they told you and you can prove it, then claim it back.

Put your claim in WRITING. Keep records. They have a reputation for saying things and forgetting, denying, changing...

If phoning, try and get as high up the organisation as you can, though there's only so high you can get in India.

When I switched to Primus in June 2010 I did it through uSwitch (to get the £16 Quidco cashback).

uSwitch states the contract is 12 months.

I just checked now on both uSwitch and HomePhoneChoices and the contract is 12 months.

I hope my contract is genuinely 12 months as I will be leaving Primus at the first opportunity.

Did the OP switch directly with Primus? If it was through a comparison website which states 12 months this may help the case if indeed they have charged for another 12-18 months.

I have been scammed by Primus and they took £71.40 termination fee but the bills are still coming! I received another Bill yesterday for £6.61!
As I am now with BT & have been since 21/01/11 I am now paying two landline providers!
Contact Primus In writing, also Ofcom, and raise a dispute.Give Primus 8 weeks to comply and if this fails go to Ombudsman and then OTELO.
I am in the same boat so fight them with guns ablazing.
    Good Luck.

    I Hate Primus.

Something that might help others get clarity on their contract length:

I had a bill query with Primus which I sent to savers@primustel.co.uk, I asked for a breakdown of their rather vague '
[FONT=&quot]Charges,Credits and Adjustments' for my last bill and they reponded 24 hours later with a more detailed statement and in it included the line: 'Line Rental 12 month'.

Looks promising for those who took up the offer via websites stating 12 month contracts.

If you paid Primus by Direct Debit and Primus did not notify you in advance of how much they were going to take by direct debit, you could apply to your bank for a full and immediate refund under the direct debit guarantee scheme.
