No Claims, do I declare?

I have 3 years no claims on my Direct Line policy and prior to that I had a company car with 10 years no claims.

I have for the last two years just renewed with Direct Line but now getting a new car and doing the search for insurance.

Do I say I have 3 years no claims or 13? I have had a car since I was 21 (so twenty years, OMG!) and I have never made a claim.

Any advice gratefully received. And probably wont make much of a difference now as Im a woman driver and we have lost all the benefits of being cheaper at claims (all men note that I did NOT say better drivers!)

Denise :p

  • Hi,
If you had 10 years company car insurance then stopped and then 3 years no claims, you only have 3 years. your bonus expires after 2 years.

If you have 10 years at the same time as your 3 years you would have 13 comulative. e.g 8 and 1 9 and 2 10 and 3

You only have 3 years no claims bonus, which is what proof you will get from Direct line.

Although you drove a company car for 10 years, the bonus will belong to the insured (which was the company). Some insurers recognise this driving experience if you get a letter from the company and will allow a starter bonus but you should have dealt with this at the time you took out your DL policy.

as per BD1, DL would have allowed 10 years company car NCD subject to criteria and this would have become "live" ncd after the 1st year.

I did, I provided Direct Line with a letter from my company and a letter from my companies insurance to say I had 10 years no claims.

So if that is the case after the first year would it be 11 years no claims or am I not getting this?

Your letter will have stated you had been driving without a claim - not that you had 10 years no claims "bonus"!

Your "proof" from DL will say 3 years at renewal.
