Claiming back for late trains

Hello,

My train from Godalming to London Waterloo left on time, but was over an hour late this morning after an 'attempted suicide' at Waterloo.

While I appreciate that this was not the fault of SW Trains in any way whatsoever, the train guard did make an announcement stating that as the train was over an hour late, passengers should collect a form from the station and claim the cost of the journey back.

I was told in no uncertain terms by the station staff back in Godalming that this isn't the case.

What's the score? Can I? Can't I?

Normally I wouldn't mind, as of course, these tragic circumstances were beyond their control. However, I HATE SW Trains, and I currently pay £300 a month to stand in a crammed train for an hour twice a day, or if I'm lucky, sit on the floor.

If I can get anything back whatsoever from these rip off merchants, I will!

The rule is after 1 hour you get SOME (not necessarily all) money back, or it was last time I did this. Unless suicide is now classified as an act of god or something. Give SW trains a call and ask, if a positive response get them to post you a claims form. Or just write a whinging letter, enclosing your tickets.

Looks like you have a monthly ticket.

South West Trains passenger charter includes a section on refunds...
Compensation for delays or cancellations on Monthly or longer Season Tickets

With that ticket it looks like you will not get compensation for that delay reason.
But you read about it and decide.

P.s. as mentioned above, it may be easier to phone up and ask.

Nicely worded :rotfl: , however unfortunately, as it's a season ticket I don't think you will get any compensation. But it will do you no harm in writing a letter and you never know you might just be lucky.

Ah, I had a feeling that was the case...
