If its free who is going to pay for it? I resent tax payers money going to pay for it as that money is better spent on hospitals, schools etc.

Although computers are more common now than say 5 years ago, there are many disadvantaged people who dont have access to computer let alone free wifi.

Money to hospitals? So it can be spent on advertising?! :rotfl:
I would rather some of our money be spent on providing free wifi than on  advertising.
    I think it's a great idea :j
    The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

I dont agree with hospitals paying for advertising but I was just giving that an example. I very much doubt this will work if they expect tax payer to pay the bill. I dont no any other way how its going to be free, someone will have to pay for it some how

I suppose WIFI will come free as soon as broadband goes free. Next year I think BT plan to start providing free the broadband we currently pay for, as the next generation of broadband 24meg is rolled out in South Wales in 2007.

Latest thinking is that the mobile networks will have to move towards the "funded by advertising" model if free or low-cost WiFi catches on. I'd rather have it paid for, advert free, and widely available though.
  • The majority of computer users don't use laptops, myself included, so I'll be b*ggered if I'm going to pay for someone else to use something I can't!

Or you could get a wireless card from ebay for a tenner and tear up your broadband contract...

I think people need to take a deep breath and think for a minute...

Free wireless everywhere = FREE INTERNET EVERYWHERE!!!

I does not matter if you "do not have a laptop", you bloody well would if you could use the internet everywhere, wouldn't you?

This would be great, if it happens. Just think:

Say goodbye to mobiles phones and landlines - VoIP would be everywhere.
Say goodbye to broadband, ok wifi may not be as fast yet but it not far off.
Say goodbye to fax machines, Just scan and email, anywhere!
Say Goodbye to radio and tv, just streem 1000s of channels from all over the world, COOL!!

The internet is getting faster every day, WIFI is getting better every, err, well, soon anyway:)

I for one will give my support to this campaign, I think you all should to.

    Vince.

What a great idea. I would really like to use my laptop in the car for finding local facilities when I am on the move.

I am concerned about how secure it would be though.

I shall mention this to my tecchy husband - this is right up his street.

I am more concerned about you driving whilst using a laptop!!
