Carpet Z bar

I've just fitted carpet tiles to a room and have bought a "Z" bar to join the carpet tiles to the standard carpet in the hallway.

How do you knock down the top part after the carpet and tiles are in place?

I was thinking of placing a wooden strip along the top and hammering that but would this give an even appearance?

I've never done this before and I'm trying to avoid making a horlicks of it :o

You might be better off with one of these. http://www.screwfix.com/prods/46622/Flooring/Flooring-Accessories/Gold-Carpet-Cover-Door-Strip-0-9m

The one you have got is supposed to go down before you lay the carpet.

The z bar was nailed down first and the carpet is tucked under the hooked side and the carpet tiles are under the plain side.

The carpet tiles are approx 3mm lower than the carpet and underlay side and I understand that the purpose of the "Z" construction is to allow the top of the bar to be knocked down so it's flush with the tops of both carpets.

My question is: what is the best way to knock the top down evenly?

you don't hammer anything , lift it and throw it away you seem to have the wrong door bar, you need either a flat bar or an angled bar that would do the job.

Length of wood..whacked evenly with hammer/mallet.

Not a big fan of z-bars as they tend to sheer off.

Will be doing a similar thing shortly carpet tiles to carpet. What carpet tiles did you get as i've not bought mine yet?

Thanks, i'll give it a go but I must admit I thought the z bar looked a bit flimsy after I bought it.

I got my 8mm cut pile tiles from

    http://www.burofloor.com/

They also do a 6mm loop pile tile ( I've just seen your request an another thread )

As I said, this is new to me, can you give me links to the "flat" and "angled" bars you mentioned.

Thanks Andrew, I've knocked the z bar down with a thick wooden strip and hammer and it looks fine and even !!

If it does eventually fail, then at least there are a few other options.
