help bit of advice on tax credite underpaympent please!!

hi , would appreciate a bit of advice please?
my partner and i were both single working parents, qualifying for working and child tax credits. When my partner moved in last year we wrote them immediately to inform them , they stopped my tax credits and continued paying my partners into his bank account his weekly allowance which we presumed was our joint new payment. my partner got made redundant in feb and we found out our tax credits would go up so had to fill in a claim again and have since found out that they have not been paying us for our joint claim since last year , they just continued paying my partner his allowance , we have wrote but i just wondered if anyone knows will they have to pay me back from last may as i did declare changes and they did get letter as they stopped my money, therefore i have had no child or working element for the last 10months!!! thanks x
