Replacement box for 50" plasma / how to protect it when moving ?

I'd kept the box my huge tv came in as it was very strong, really supportive and offered incredible protection to my TV when I need to move it.
However, a recent flooding of my house has damaged that box beyond repair and I need to claim against my landlord's building insurance for a replacement. However, just how do you find a replacement ?
Judging by the quality of the packaging, this was no £5 box and as the TV was over £1000, then do you apportion 5% ? 10% or what number ?
I wonder if anyone works in an industry where the costing of packaging for high end easily damaged goods is a known factor or even if someone can suggest an after market alternative I could purchase.

Surely its only a cardboard box with packing.??...Most tv s are around £1000.... why not ask at a electrical retailer if they have a spare box that you could have, you cant really claim under your LLs ins surely for a cardboard box.???0 -
It's a bit of a specialist size of box required for a TV that size. No-one's going to be able to supply a one-off, I would have thought. If you can't get one from a TV installer then a roll of bubble wrap will be your best bet.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Not only will I be claiming for a "cardboard box" but also any time it takes to find a replacement or alternative. Of course, the insurers could take up that responsibility and mitigate their own losses but if they can't be arsed, then so be it.0 -

Thanks, looks like decent stuff in a pinch but not a direct replacement !0 -

I would have thought the claim would have been against your contents insurance.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. OP you need to get real. The insurance company will laugh your claim away. When you move home, just wrap it in a blanket or duvet or similar, same as any normal person would do. The insurance will not pay for the packaging that a product came in, no matter how fancy it is.
And as for
'claiming for time it takes to find a replacement or alternative'
All I can say is, :rotfl:I take it you have never made an insurance claim before?

I can see the look on the faces of the insurance claims handlers when they read this claim...:rotfl::rotfl::D0

Ditto - the landlords buildings insurance covers damage to the building and its permanent fittings (like the kitchen and bathroom), not the contents. It is YOUR responsibility to cover your own contents with your own policy. But as above, its just packaging - if the TV itself is undamaged then you won't get anything, or if you did you'd be paying for it in the cost of the excess on the insurance anyway.0 -
just ask a shop who have put demo tv's up or installed them in peoples home for a box.. im sure they would be happy to give you one
but contents insurance would have to be claimed on not landlords buildings cover.. i cant see this claim moving anywhere tbhSealed pot challenger # 10
