Has old pc died

I decided to try and resurect old pc for my grandson,compaq presario.it hasn`t been used for over a year.It seemed to be fine and I connected wireless adapter.The connection is showing excellent strength but when i try to connect to internet via Internet explorer or firefox I get Cannot find server or webpage firefox or Internet explorer cannot be found.My son who used to use it has probably messed with it.Is there anything I can try doing or is it ready for the tip? I have done system restore and even system recovery.

plug it into the router with an ethernet cable, and check there are no proxy settings in IE, tools, internet options, connections

if it starts up, it hasn't died.

if you have done a full system recovery, have you installed wireless drivers, and entered encryption keys?

It starts up fine .How do i install wireless drivers and enter encryption keys?
