Carer's Allowance

We have recently moved in with my 85 year old father-in law to provide him with 'almost' full time care due to health problems. Although I am working full time my wife is now just working part time . The old chap has just been awarded attendance allowance and my wife was going to apply for carer's allowance, however although she earns under the £100 per week to qualify and does far more than the required 35 hours, she did reach state pension age a couple of months ago [60 plus the extra 5 months required] but has decided to defer for now. I understand that carers allowance can be affected or not given if you draw a pension, but what happens if its deferred ? Can Anyone Help? Thanks.

good question and i havent a clue to be honest,a quick call to the pension service will get you the answer tomorrow though

    edit:

this however was an answer to a simlar question on "rightsnet"

A person may continue to receive CA while deferring their SRP although there would be no point really as they would not receive any increase in pension or a lump sum for deferring it

It's either the pension or CA. They are overlapping benefits and you can't receive both. Which one would pay her more?
