Housing Benefit/LHA and savings?

as torbruk says its £1 for every £250 over £6000.
you have to declare all capital you have, that includes savings, property, stocks, shares, money under the bed...everything.
Unless you get pension credit (guarantee part). A single person can have about £67,000 in savings and get £1 pension guarantee credit and then get the full LHA allowance and the full council tax allowance. Obviously you need to be at least 60 years old. It's someone else's fault.0 -
Do you work OP, if not are you receiving carers allowance for any of your children if on DLA.
What benefits does your husband claim, is it IB/ESA.
Have you applied for Income Support on the basis of carers, if 2 children get middle rate care of DLA you both may be entitled to claim carers allowance and therefore get the carers premium in Income Support.
If IS is payable you could then apply for Mortgage Interest help.
Contact the benefits line on 0800 055 66 88Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -

I am self employed working fromhome, but not earning much at all due to my other responsibilities
my husband gets IB and DLA, I get carers for him and he gets the carers credit thing for one of our daughter's on DLA.
We cant get IS due to my DH's IB
we need to move as we only have 2 bedrooms here and it's a squeeze as there are 6 of us. We did think we could stick it out, but that wouldn't be fair as we couldn't afford to get an extension done to give us another bedroom.
will be contacting CAB regarding the equity from sale of the house - it really would help out with the hospital costs for the next few years.
thank you
x:jDebt free from 2010:j(except for mortgage lol)0 -
The £10,000 is under the £16,000 limit so it would only reduce your claim by a small amount. Maybe £16 per week. You can then spend it as you see fit on medical costs and tell them again regularly and they'll increase your benefit by £1 for every £250 that you spend.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I don't see any benefits that the disregard of capital would apply to apart from HB/CTB. Make sure you inform the council (when you apply) of all the disabilities and carers allowance claims in the family as premiums may apply and depending on the rental of the property you would be entitled to at least a 3 bedroom rate, check out your local council website for the criteria of bedrooms.
Keep all records of your self employment as they would need this to calculate your award.
£9,999 would reduce any claim by £15 per week.
I take it you are aware of the maximum hours/earnings for carers allowance..Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0
