Online estate agents, are they worth it? Which one?

I used HouseNetwork and barring a bit of a delay getting the For Sale sign up - everything else worked perfectly and I was very very glad I didn't go with the local agents. I would say to do it you need to be able to sell your own property to buyers and also judge the price and market for yourself. I worried about them not having an incentive to sell, but its basically about being on Rightmove so it makes no difference really. I would urge you to do it - whichever you choose.

If you are in Scotland there are only 3 or 4 scottishhousemove.com or homesaleonline and I think mouse sale. Think they all charge £399 ish. Most on Rightmove and I think that site u need to be on.

goodness, I had never heard of either of these firms and I was wondering how they would get buyers but, of course, if they put your house on rightmove thats all that counts today. There can't be much of a downside and I will certainly watch the threads as we are selling next year and our house is worth circa £500,000 so a lot in conventional estate agent fees. But I wonder how they value as presumably dont have much experience in any particular area and there isnt another house like ours where we live - I am just guessing at the price really!

We used housenetwork last year. Our flat was on for 6 months, we had 6 viewings with them. No offers. We thought we were priced reasonably but the market for newish build flats round my way is very slow! Decided in the end we would let the property as we have a reasonable amount of equity and this then put us in a strong position as buyers with nothing to sell.
Housenetwork did a great job with the photos. They put up a fairly standard description but you can add and edit this if you want. The website allows you to view stats for your property such as viewings, page clicks etc on Rightmove.

The downside for us was obviously there was no agent to actively try and sell our property. You have an "account manager" but in the scheme of things this offered no discernable benefit to us. I presume they take over once you have an offer.

For lower value properties I'd be tempted to go with a good local agent (which we did in the end but still no joy).

RM issued a statement recently claiming they had 80% of the market. If this is correct, then 20% of the available properties in the country aren't on Rightmove. That seems to me quite a sizeable chunk.
