What haven't I thought of?

ok so.. I am moving mid april.. back to the area I lived when married. I told my landlord I wouldnt be moving for years, even asked him to pay half towards a shower.. which he did last month.. I paid for the other half with a budgeting loan. I got him free loft insulation through warmfront.. and warmfront are due to do the heating and boiler in may.

But a bigger house in the area where I know a few friends has come up.. they dont need a deposit.. it has a large back garden, drive way.. bigger bedrooms and lots of storage space.

I feel mean leaving my current property.. because I am presuming he now wont get his free heating and boiler?

Anyway.. guilt aside.. I have cancelled my internet, phone and tv giving 30 days notice.. and also cancelled the DD to free up a bit more cash for moving.. although they will probably terminate my services once they notice.

I have thought about gas and electric who I will ring in a few weeks.. have gotten quotes from man and vans to move me.

But I am severaly sleep deprived.. still.. and am now feeling overwelmed and confused with what needs doing what doesnt.

I have sorted my toddlers nursery out almost.. and provisionally put him down for nursery 3yr place until I move and can fill out the forms.

What else do I need to think of? :s really sorry if its in the wrong place..

  • Just thinking...you say a house has 'come up' is it actually yours? Are there contracts to sign or something to set this in stone? I'd want to know for sure it was mine (a deposit would help) before you go cancelling things.

Have you told the water company? You can pay (under a tenner I think) to have post redirected by royal mail for 3 months from a certain date. That way any post coming to you in the next 3 months in the red packaing from royal mail will tell you who you need to inform of new details.

Don't forget child benefit people and tax credits.

If you told your Landlord you wouldn't be moving 'for years' check you're not locked in to any end date on your Lease, and check the terms of the Lease for the period of notice you are required to give. If none stated a month should be fine.

Council tax? DWP if you are claiming any benefits. Note for when you move is to change address on your driving licence if applicable.

What about enquiring about registering with new doctors / dentists?

    How old is toddler?
You mention nursery, but is he old enough that you need to be making the application for his reception place too?

The only obligation you owe your landlord is what it says in your tenancy agreement.

You mention that no deposit is needed. It all sounds very friendly, but that can sometimes mean that the legalese is more neglected. How secure is your tenancy in this new place, and how vulnerable is it to changes of circumstance in the new landlord's life?
  • Just write him a lovely note, and say that due to family circumstances it has necessitated you depart earlier than planned.

Thank him for all the help and assistance he has given you and that you are sorry to be leaving.

Be aware though, verbal agreements are also binding, so you might find some of your deposit goes for the jobs coming up based on your agreement to stay. Legal, doubt it, but landlords regularly withhold deposits, so do have that in mind if you are tight for money.

PS how is little one after the cranial on Monday?
