Well, you never know....spose you just have to trust people. There are about 10 people bidding on it so if the winner is a time waster will just offer to the next higher.

Have sold a few items on there recently on not had any bad experiences as yet so fingers crossed. Won't send it till the money have been credited to Paypal anyway.

I always go the other way with postage. I stated each game at £3 which people where happy to pay but they only cost me £1.18 each and that was recorded delivery.:D
  • I think it is a reflection of todays society, that second hand stuff is deemed to have very little value. Make do & mend is out the window, just buy new & stick it on the credit card.

I have been guilty of this is the past, have thrown stuff away because it has torn & I could not be bothered sewing it. I remember my mum carefully darning socks, patching jeans & unravelling old jumpers that had got too small & re-knitting them into proper sized new ones (two old jumpers would become one stripy new one, or a tank top, or gloves and scarves etc etc)

I know in Africa (where I lived as a child), EVERYTHING has value, everything is recycled again & again, until it is totally vapourised!

But back to your OP, I too have sold stuff on ebay for a fraction of its original cost & it is very depressing. I console myself with the thought that I will get good bargains when I am buying rather than selling!
Proud to be dealing with my debts :j

    Totally agree....:T

Don't know if you have ever read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintence by Robert Pirsig??? There is a bit in there when he talks about a shim he makes for a motorbike out of an old bit of tin. The shim works perfectly and is hidden from view but the idea that the shim is not new and official slowly drives him mad and takes away all the enjoyment he gets from the bike. In the end he has to buy a new shim for about £30....a total waste of money but then and only then is he happy again.
  • You're right Pan.

In general, my eBay experience has been a very positive one. I've only been ripped off once and even then eBay insurance kicked in.

The eBay muppet fraternity generally only frequent the motors section (i.e. test pilots, tyre kicking wannabes, etc.)

Useful comments IWAF - and ones I wholeheartedly endorse. I grew up in the South Wales Valleys so not too dissimilar (geographically speaking) to your childhood then! ;-)
  • I can relate to the reference you've alluded to Pan. Unfortunately.

Hey TW....what part of Wales did you grow up in??
  • I have 3 evening dresses, 1 nice dress and 2 cocktail dresses for sale through a second hand dress agancy. I toyed with listing on ebay but decided to try it this way - if they all sell I will get £113 ( which is a fraction of the cost ) but also have to wait till January to see if they have all sold.
It is a pity that second hand just doesnt fetch any where near the clothes original worth - but at least you have got a bit of money that you didnt have yesterday :o

  • I managed to bag a fax machine from eBay for 1p + £10 P&P last year. Soon after the guy emailed me and told me he had dropped and damaged it. I could either have my money back or take another that he had that was newer instead. I took the newer model, tried it and it was fine, posted great feedback for him then within a week it conked out and never worked again.

This guy obviously also had a "hollow" feeling when he lost his beloved fax machine for 1p but did something about it - good one!
