Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

They'll probably open you up an extra account and start charging you twice like they did to me when I fell for one of these offers............so glad I'm not with AOL any more.

ive been with aol for 11 years without any problems, (i am rather assertive on the phone tho) one or two minor hitches over the years have been rectified pretty quick.

now this morning due to a change in financial circumstances i had cause to phone aol to cancel my BB as i have stopped working in the short term for health reasons. I am paying bt £15 a month line rental and £16 a month aol.

Talk talk offered me a reasonable package for £19 month, but their reputation scared me to move. aol have now offered me the same package for £17 inc line rental a month, and confirmed it on email already. im unsure how this will all go from the comments above, but to be honest non of the isp seem to have good reputations so better the devil i know i guess...

Many of the smaller ISP's have good reputations, however, you get what you pay for in most cases, pay nuts, get monkeys. ( Talk Talk/AOL )

I've been with AOL for a long time but do not have their software on my computer (and never will again, as it caused nothing but problems with my computer).

I have Broadband and calls 24/7 with them but not line rental.

They offered me a really good deal, the Broadband speed increased and I have had no problems APART from customer services who leave a lot to be desired, difficult to understand and on the whole difficult to get them to understand you.

However, I am very pleased with the service and it has saved me a considerable amount of money; which is an important fact for me.

    Hope this helps.........
