I took up the offer of a free wiring check. Rep who called was very nice, polite and thorough, and recommended a new modern fusebox and upgrading of the earth wires. then proceeded to fill out a report and quote form, which came to nearly £1000. He seemed to be expecting me to sign there and then and pay a deposit. However, when I queried whether I could get a local company to do the work, he said yes of course, but they offered interest free credit.
My local chap came round today - agreed that the work was needed but not immediately critical, and quoted ' "tops of £350". I checked on the internet and the fusebox costs less than £100, so his price seemed fair.
How can SSE get away with this, and how many people have they duped? Don't let it be you.0
