To add a cheese course to the daytime menu I was looking at would have cost £3.95 per person....I have I think decided to use that budget at the evening reception instead and Im pretty sure that for £150 we can create something special ...never tried stacking cheeses before but it cant be that hard...

I adore cheese so would love a cake made of cheese! I looked into this a little while ago and got very bogged down with the best way to get the cheese to the venue Our venue will do cheese and biscuits for £5 per person plus VAT but this would not be a cake of cheese (plus that seems pretty expensive :eek:)

The cheese would need to be refridgerated, and it would take up a fair amount of space- if we bought our own cheese then the venue wouldn't refridgerate it for us, as there is nothing in it for them, but also they will not let us serve unrefridgerated cheese on their premises, I assume in case anyone complains or it makes them ill.

There is also the issue of getting someone to assemble and decorate it just before the reception. The only way around this I can think of would be to store the cheese in my own fridge and deliver it myself to the venue on the day, but even that is no good as the cheese would be unfridgerated for a good few hours before the reception.

If anyone has any bright ideas of how to solve this I would love to hear them, maybe I am missing something really obvious !

Okay not very local, but I know my local cheese shop does wedding cakes of cheese They do online shopping as well so it might be worth giving them a ring? Although I suspect as with all things weddingy it's probably cheaper to do it yourself!

This my local shop in town, but it says it delivers all over the UK. Might be worth asking them for a quote? No idea how much it would be, but I thought they looked quite pretty for cheese cakes.

You could try searching for cheese towers instead of cheese cakes. I found a few that way. But a cheese company near me only does 3 options, £50 for 5kg, £115 for 11kg, £140 for 15kg. Ouch!!!

We are going to try the butcher across the road, as he sells cheese, and see what sort of a bargain he can do! The fact he's very close friends with my Step-mum will hopefully help!

We had a 6 tier cheese wedding cake for our wedding and it went down a strom, its still a talking point 4 months later.

We had a great venue who were happy to serve it for us as an evening buffet along with fruit, biscuits, pickles and pork pie. I have to diasgree with the venue manager that told lisa26 that the cheese would be left, it wasnt!

We purposley over estimated the amount we needed so that we had loads left to take on honeymoon with us as we are both cheese fiends and 4 out of the 6 cheeses were hard so would last a few months

We used a place called the cheese board in HArrogate, they couriered it to the venue in refrigerated packs (venue requirement). the cheese quality was amazing (it always is, we make a trip there every christmas especially for it) and we even got to do a massive taste test when we originally ordered it.

Much cheaper than a normal wedding cake too, £350 all in

Costco sell large rounds of cheese, which you can tier to make a wedding cake

My local shop do cheese wedding cakes, they have a website and they do cakes from £70 to £250 and they also do bespoke cakes at £1.75-£2.50 a head. They deliver for about £6.95.
