Fitting of Outside Tap

Hi there
I am looking to buy a new build house and they do not come with an outside tap fitted as standard.
I have been quoted £120 by the housebuilder to put one in.
I think this is steep, please could you let me know if I am just being stingy.
I am aware that you can get kits to do this yourself, but I am not very handy so I will probably prefer to call a professional in just in case (mind you at that price I would have to get handy!)
Many Thanks

Hi
my OH is a plumber if it is just a straigth through the wall job from behild the sink unit he would charge £60 so yes this does sound steep. If they have to take the pipe from the loft then it is about right.
The DIY kits are rubbish it will end up leaking.0 -
Thanks Betsie
I would rather get a plumber in to do this and at the same time also connect the washing machine and dishwasher as I think I would prefer a professional job, as I am a bit funny about DIY when it comes to water / electrics / gas. Leave it to the professionals.
Do you know what a fair price should be for all 3 (fit washer, dishwasher / and outside tap)
Thanks0 -
Last one I done was about 2 years ago and it cost £100, so I don't think it is too bad for today.
You will need an isolating valve and a double check valve as well as the tap and fittings, so all in all £120 isn't that far out.
You cannot use an outside tap that has a check valve built in as it is a new outside tap installation.0 -
Just to chuck my 2 pence worth in - its an easy enough job if you did want to have a go yourself - me and DIY really don't mix, but I managed to install our outside tap with no issues. Got a kit from B&Q for £15, hired a whopping great hammer drill for a couple of hours for £10 from the local hire place, followed the kit and tapped the new pipe into the cold feed under the sink, drilled through the wall and kitchen cupboard, shoved hose through, connected to tap, fixed tap to wall, sealed around the tap, job done. Was surprisingly low effort.0

Thanks bosseyed
I'll see how we are fixed for cash when we move in, it might be the only option.0 -
